The treasure beneath Krzysztofory
What the servant saw when he went down into the palace cellars.
Beneath the Krzysztofory Palace, in the corner of the Market Square, run cellars deeper than anywhere else in the city. They say it was Twardowski's workshop, but an older legend tells of a treasure. A servant went down there on Midsummer Night and saw a hall full of gold, guarded by a hen with golden feathers. He filled his pockets, but the hen crowed, the doors closed behind him and he was never seen again. Once a year, on Midsummer Night, the doors open for a moment.
The cellars are real and you can enter them: they house the Museum of Kraków and a cabaret. Nobody has found the golden hen.
